Week of November 28-December 2, 2016

Thanks Keesa for graciously cutting out more than a hundred shapes on contact paper and for Lacey for peeling and sticking them on paper. The final product turned out amazing. Students peeled the contact paper off after it's been painted and dried, and used their imagination to create a story.

We had an exciting week. The students were introduced to fruit words in language, three dimensional shapes, and day/night in Science.

Weeks of October 24-November 4, 2016

So many festivities going on, we still got lots of learning done in the past two weeks. We wrapped up the "Body Parts" unit in Mandarin as well as "Plane Shapes" in Math. Students will begin to start naming family members and positional words in Math.

Continue to encourage your child to be familiarize with their Mandarin Journals. The more they "show off" at home, the more confident and fluent they become.

Week of October 17-21, 2016

This week, the students began new units in language and Math. Students can now tell someone if a part of their body hurts. (My____hurts.) We are also working on naming two-dimentional shapes. Students have been busy tracing, building, and playing with the shape blocks. Please encourage your child to name shapes in either English or Mandarin outside of school. Being able to identify the differences between flat and solid shapes is going to be helpful.

Thank you for all the families for donating to the GLOBETrot and even taking time out of your busy day to volunteer. All the teachers and students had a blast and it really helps students understand that they worked hard to help raise funds for their amazing school.

|Mandarin Journal| Head Shoulders Knees & Toes / Body Parts

Thank you to the Bluetts for sharing their enthusiasm for learning and immersing in Mandarin away from school! Refer to your Mandarin Journal for the latest thematic unit song. We will begin to apply the words into daily lives such as "My _____ hurts." "Please don't touch my ______." "I use my _____ for _____."

Students who are actively showing what they know away from school learn best. Thank you Booker and family!

Week of September 19-23, 2016

This week we continued on applying dialogues into our daily routines. Students are to ask for supplies in complete sentences, "Can you pass me the ______?" or "Can I please have _______?"

Students are expected to give more details by adding color words some of the times.
Next week in Math, we will begin to compare quantities. Students will match the manipulatives to conclude which group is greater or lesser. We will then move on to compare numbers. Students will use tools such as drawing or looking at the number lines to further help them understand the concept.

It has been a very eventful week. Students survived both fire and tornado drill as well as picture day! As we begin a new week, I want to thank you for your support and love. Parent Teacher Conference is just around the corner, so please be understanding if your child's teachers look a bit overwhelmed. We are trying our best just as you are.

Week of September 6-9, 2016

Thank you parents for donating items for our Five Senses science unit. The students were able to engage in some exciting tasting and smelling activities. Students tasted salt, sugar, lemon, and black pepper. They also made play-doh pizza with basil, mint, rosemary, and coffee beans. Next week, we will take a nature walk to discover objects in a variety of textures. We will make a slimy bouncy ball, too.

In Mandarin, we will begin to formally introduce vocabulary words related to SCHOOL. Since students use supplies very frequently, it is so helpful to start learning their names. Things such as glue sticks, pencils, crayons, scissors, journals, dry erase markers, dry erase boards, water bottles, and lunch boxes. By the end of the unit, students are expected to ask for items in complete sentences and even describe the items by its color(s).

In Math, students will continue to count with cardinality and answering "how many?" questions.
