Learning Measurement through Limbo!

Happy new year! This week consists of a full day plus a little snowstorm freakout in the South. Nonetheless, we make learning fun! The students were briefly introduced the concept of measurement in Math. We played Limbo, and the students had to use the phrase "a little higher" and "a little lower" during the game.

Week of November 28-December 2, 2016

Thanks Keesa for graciously cutting out more than a hundred shapes on contact paper and for Lacey for peeling and sticking them on paper. The final product turned out amazing. Students peeled the contact paper off after it's been painted and dried, and used their imagination to create a story. 

We had an exciting week. The students were introduced to fruit words in language, three dimensional shapes, and day/night in Science.

Students will be performing SNOW BLOSSOM IN THE WINTER on December 20, 2016. We have not officially introduced the song/dance yet, but will begin tomorrow.

Weeks of October 24-November 4, 2016

So many festivities going on, we still got lots of learning done in the past two weeks. We wrapped up the "Body Parts" unit in Mandarin as well as "Plane Shapes" in Math. Students will begin to start naming family members and positional words in Math.

Continue to encourage your child to be familiarize with their Mandarin Journals. The more they "show off" at home, the more confident and fluent they become.

Week of October 17-21, 2016

This week, the students began new units in language and Math. Students can now tell someone if a part of their body hurts. (My____hurts.) We are also working on naming two-dimentional shapes. Students have been busy tracing, building, and playing with the shape blocks. Please encourage your child to name shapes in either English or Mandarin outside of school. Being able to identify the differences between flat and solid shapes is going to be helpful. 

Thank you for all the families for donating to the GLOBETrot and even taking time out of your busy day to volunteer. All the teachers and students had a blast and it really helps students understand that they worked hard to help raise funds for their amazing school.
